ICHO Festival and University Festival

To commemorate the foundation of The University of Osaka (established on May 1, 1931), the “Icho Festival” usually takes place around May 1 and 2 of each year. The University Festival takes place on November 1 through 5. (November 3 is Culture Day, a national holiday.) At these two festivals there will be various cultural and sport events planned and operated by different student organizations. There will also be an open house of various facilities of the University during the Icho Festival. We encourage international students to actively take part in these activities.
“Icho” is the Japanese word for “ginkgo tree”. These trees can be found in abundance throughout the University campuses. The University logo symbolizes a ginkgo leaf (see the left).

Exchange Students Gathering

The Exchange Students Gathering is a casual event that brings together inbound and outbound students at the University of University. It offers an opportunity for international students studying in Japan and students preparing to study abroad to meet, share experiences, and build new connections. Through short student talks, interactive activities, and networking time, participants can exchange practical advice about studying abroad and learn from each other’s perspectives. The event is open to all students interested in international exchange and global experiences.

OUSSEP Ambassador Program

The OUSSEP Ambassador Initiative is a voluntary student program that encourages participants to share their exchange experiences and contribute to the international community at Osaka University. Ambassadors support exchangerelated activities by sharing their perspectives as international students, participating in events, and helping create opportunities for interaction between inbound and outbound students. Through these activities, ambassadors help make student life in the OUSSEP program more visible and accessible to future participants.Participation is flexible and designed to complement students’ academic schedules. As recognition of their contribution, participating students may receive an Open Badge, a digital certificate acknowledging their engagement in international exchange activities.

How to Apply
Students interested in becoming OUSSEP Ambassadors may apply when the program is announced during the semester. Information sessions and invitations to apply are introduced three times per year, typically during OUSSEP Assemblies and through email announcements.
